Boeing 787 & 777X

During his 19-year career at Boeing, Josh served as a lead design engineer on the 787 and 777X aircraft programs, with extensive experience in wing and center wing box structures.

His work included structural layout and design, spars, skins and stringers, fuel tank structures, systems attachments, electromagnetic effects integration, bird-strike analysis, and trade studies focused on reducing weight and cost.

Josh is a named inventor on a patent for stiffened composite panels developed for the 787-9 and 787-10 and received Boeing's Special Invention Award for this work.

He also spent three years living and working in Japan, coordinating engineering between Boeing teams in Everett and Fuji Heavy Industries, which manufactured the 787 center wing box. His international aerospace experience also included project work in Moscow and collaboration with Korean Aerospace Industries.

Aerion AS2 Supersonic Business Jet

Josh served as a technology integrator for the Boeing Next/Aerion collaboration developing the AS2 supersonic business jet.

His work focused on the challenges of creating a thin, lightweight supersonic wing and included multi-spar wing sizing and trade studies, wing-to-fuselage and landing gear integration, composite and metallic structures, electromagnetic effects, and structural design.

This work resulted in a second patent for an electromagnetic-effects-compliant fastener system.

Boeing 767, KC-46 & 777

As a lead designer for engine pylon and strut structures, Josh worked on the Boeing 767, KC-46, and 777 aircraft families.

In addition to new design work, he investigated chronic production and in-service fleet problems, developed structural repairs and engineering solutions, and led regulatory compliance and safety investigations affecting multiple aircraft fleets.

His aerospace experience also includes drone and remotely piloted vehicle design.

Civil/Residential Engineering

Custom Residence | Austin, Texas

Structural engineering for a custom home featuring large open interior spaces and a cantilevered deck. The project required solutions that supported the architectural vision while meeting structural and code requirements.

Residential Roof Structure | Twisp, Washington

Engineering of a new large-span roof structure after the project's original plan to reuse existing trusses proved unworkable. Ross Engineering Consulting developed an alternative structural solution that allowed the project to move forward.

No-Comply Skate Shop | Austin, Texas

Engineering for elevated storage, workspace, and signage within an active commercial retail environment. The design needed to maximize usable space while providing safe access for employees and maintaining the customer area below.

Industrial Tooling | Everett, Washington

Structural analysis of fixed and movable steel and aluminum manufacturing tooling used within Boeing's Everett production facilities.

The work required application of building, structural, and transportation-related standards to specialized industrial equipment that did not always fit neatly within conventional structural engineering categories.
